We loved this hotel/resort. It had a great beach (apparently one of the best in Hawaii), very spacious rooms, extremely friendly staff, and was very clean. We were upgraded to a room with a partial ocean view because we were on our honeymoon. The room had a nice balcony and a great view of the mountains and ocean.
If you can, get a room with the breakfast buffet package. Along with your room, it includes a huge breakfast buffet with pretty much anything you'd want. The hotel is a bit away from town, so it would have been a bit of a pain to find breakfast every morning.
It was a bit pricey, but it was away from the hustle of Kona. It was close enough that you could easily drive to Kona (about 30 minutes). It was about a two hour drive to Hilo.
The resort had a pretty nice looking golf course, but I didn't have a chance to try it out. The course at the hotel's sister resort (Mauna Kea) is currently being restored, with new greens, sand traps, and grass. I think it is scheduled to reopen in either 2008 or 2009.
The snorkeling at the hotel was amazing...much better than the snorkeling trip that we had to pay for!!
About the only negative we could find was that our room smelled a bit mildewy, especially when the A/C was running (it caused a few flare ups of my wife's allergies).
